Glazed atrium repair to Walthamstow bus station, London, by rope access experts The Comprehensive Group.
Walthamstow bus station located in London is managed by Transport for London (TFL), opened in 2005 and is the third busiest bus station in the capital.
As part of the original construction the bus station has a glazed atrium over the central roof to enhance the natural daylight into the space below. Over recent years the glazed atrium has been experiencing numerous leaks and water ingress.
Looking for alternative contractors and a fresh perspective, The Comprehensive Group was contacted by Transport For London facility management department to initially inspect and highlight the defective sections to the atrium which were enabling water to ingress and into the area below. After our initial inspection and defect highlighting, The Comprehensive Group were then instructed to undertake the necessary glazed atrium repairs utilising rope access technicians due to the challenging works area.
Upon initial inspection, our technicians discovered a range of substandard repairs had taken place over the years to various glass sections of the atrium and this is why the water still progressed through the roof onto the floor below. Some of these substandard repairs were depicted to illustrate to the client the before and afters for client peace of mind and also inclusion into a full report prior to client sign-off. We have even included some of these images below so you can witness the poor workmanship undertaken prior to our leak detection and corrective repairs.
During the leak repairs, our technicians undertook the commercial sealant application to ensure the glazed atrium could withstand the UK weather. This involved stripping back and removing all past repair attempts. Cleaning down the surface area and then our technicians could undertake the corrective repairs to the glazed atrium.
Further images below depict our leak detection and repairs being undertaken by our skilled operatives. After successfully removing all the old repair attempts and carrying out the new repairs, our technicians then conducted a water test with client inspection to ensure no leaks had been missed or not fixed.
Finally a full photographic report was issued for client approval and final sign-off along with a length insurance backed guarantee on our workmanship.
