Glazed curtain wall repair to Newcastle upon Tyne office block. The Comprehensive Group was contacted by a National Facility Management firm, who required one of the glazed units within a curtain walled office block replacing. The replacement was needed as the unit had become damaged and cracked, causing a potential Health and Safety issue, not only to the inhabitants but also pedestrians below.
The office block was located on the edge of Newcastle upon Tyne, the building was surrounded by well maintained greenery and garden beds. This meant that scaffolding was not possible as space did not permit this so a different access method was required. For ease and the least disruptive method was decided to be via a MEWP.
The damaged glazed unit was located on the second floor. After initial site survey and inspection, our project management team spec’d to use a MEWP as the best form of access to reach and replace the damaged glazed unit. After submittal of detailed RAMS, our client was happy and approved our access method to conduct the glazed curtain wall repair. Alongside RAMS submittal, prior to works commencing, our in-house procurement team managed to source the same specification glazed unit for the replacement. Using our wide range of material suppliers, a small sample unit was provided to our client to ensure they were one-hundred percent happy with the replacement unit. This route to provide a small sample unit for client approval was as a result of previous glazed curtain wall repairs to the office block not matching the existing units.
