Curtain Wall Refurb – Liverpool

Curtain Wall Refurb to Liverpool office block using a combination of IRATA trained rope access technicians and MEWPs.

Curtain Wall Refurbishment is a key service of the Comprehensive Group due to the limited access points on the face of a glazed curtain walling structure. With the continued architectural benefits of a glazed curtain wall facade, abseiling to access areas of concern is the perfect access solution. The thin and usually aluminium frame with the glazed unit infills results in the need for experienced technicians to undertake any repair or replacement works.

The Comprehensive Group were contacted by the building owner after experiencing issues with the previous contractor who could not match the clients specification to undertake the required repair works. After several meetings with our client and their external expert, a plan of action to undertake the curtain wall refurbishment was agreed upon. The scope of works included the cutting back of the gasket to be able to access the seal. Once the seal was exposed, our site team then undertook the delicate task of resealing around all the exposed glazed units from frame to glass. The critical detail was to ensure a 10mm x 10mm fillet finish was achieved. To further explain and illustrate the repair work that was undertaken we have used the external’s consultants drawing to depict this below. There are also some before and after images to show the difference this project made to the structure.

As The Comprehensive Group were appointed the principal contractor for this project, our office based project’s team ensured all the necessary CPP and accompanying documentation was produced for client approval, prior to works commencing.

Upon successful completion of the sealing part of the curtain wall refurb package, our IRATA trained abseil technicians then undertook a full curtain wall clean to finish the refurbishment.
