Emergency glazed unit make safe undertaken by utilising rope access technicians by The Comprehensive Group in Newcastle, England.
The Comprehensive Group were contacted by a regional facilities management firm to undertake an emergency glazed unit repair / make-safe to a busy office block in Newcastle.
The damaged glazed unit was located directly above a busy reception area, main walk way for a commercial office block. The internally fixed glazed unit had fractured causing a major health and safety hazard. The client required the damaged glazed unit repairing / making safe as soon as possible. With the double glazed unit being internally fixed and located directly above the main office building doors, in the reception area, no powered access machinery could enter the building to undertake the emergency glazing make-safe works. The easiest and most efficient means of accessing the damaged glazed unit was by rope access / abseil methods. As phase one of the works package, The Comprehensive Group’s IRATA trained abseil technicians undertook the emergency make safe by securely placing window safety film over the entire damaged unit. This would ensure no part of the glazed unit would escape and fall to the ground below. The application of the safety window film is only a temporary measure whilst a new glazed unit is procured.
During the emergency make safe, our in-house technical team captured the works in the images and video below. The shots depict the speed of access and clear advantages of using abseil methods to undertake this type of work.
Now the unit is made safe, The Comprehensive Group will be returning to site with the new / replacement glazed unit to undertake a completed high level glazing replacement.
A commercial glazing contractor who is able to conduct individual or multiple high level glazing / glass replacements at height using abseil technicians. We are often asked why use abseil techniques for glass replacements? The answer is abseil technicians can often complete high rise glass replacements and/or glass replacements in difficult to access locations without the requirement for costly and time-consuming scaffolding so these cost savings can be passed onto the end client. Not only does abseil glass replacements and glazing refurbishment to high rise glazing save the cost of scaffolding, it also reduces timeframe so again damaged or cracked building glass replacements can happen sooner.
