Mansafe Netting Installation to commercial building as part of wider renovation and refurbishment. The Comprehensive Group were tasked with a mansafe netting installation project to a lightwell in Coventry.
The Comprehensive Group were initially called by the main contractor responsible for undertaking a complete site wide refurbishment project to undertake an external refurbishment to a lightwell. However, prior to our IRATA trained access technicians attending site, the main contractor had instructed a different company to undertake a replacement programme to all the external windows facing the lightwell. The window replacement were carried out internally so no specialist access was required. However, during the window replacement works a substantial amount of materials fell from the aperture and onto the roof at the foot of the lightwell.
This highlighted not only a potential health and safety issue but also a potential for a lot of damage to be done to the roof. As a result, the main contractor required mansafe netting installation to be carried out. As we have built our business on providing a wide range of services, installing netting via abseil is a growing sector within our business service portfolio so we were able to assist our client on this project extra.
After site survey, our procurement team secured mansafe nets which met the necessary industry standard of BSEN1263-01 to be installed. Before the netting installation could happen, the rope access team had to install eye bolts all the way around the perimeter of the lightwell in order for the mansafe nets to be fixed to securely, ensuring all the bolts were pull-set so the nets would hold up should any debris / items fall into them, installing the mansafe nets to BSEN1263-02 standards.
After successful installation of the eyebolts, our rope access team could complete the mansafe netting installation and carry out all checks before our team would revisit site to complete the lightwell refurbishment project.
